Lizzie M. Baker-Duff
Lizzie Mae Johnson born September 27, 1946 to proud parents Judge Lee Johnson and O’Ceola Johnson in Shreveport, LA. She was the fifth born of seven children.
Lizzie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Later becoming a member of Citizens of Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor B.T. Newman.
Lizzie started her primary education in Caddo Parish Unified School District. She moved to California and completed her high school education throughout the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Lizzie Mae Johnson met and married the Love of Her Life, Sam Armstead and to their union three beautiful daughters were born. Lizzie’s lovely first born daughter Marilyn Johnson welcomed her little sister’s Mary Armstead, Sylvia Armstead, and Stephanie Armstead.
Lizzie was passionate about caring for others which led her to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and later went on to study Practical Nursing. Lizzie enjoyed an amazing career with the County of Los Angeles, consistently recognized for being a stellar employee. She was blessed to work in various positions with the County, eventually retiring as a Mental Health Case Manager for Augustus Hawkins Mental Health Center after 30 years of dedicated service.
Lizzie lived an amazing life full of laughter known to some as a natural born comedian. She was the life of the party! She was blessed with an enchanting personality which attracted people to her. She enjoyed fashion, posting her favorite pics to social media, gardening, cooking, dancing, spending time with family and road trips, especially to Atlanta. God allowed her to embrace love again not once, but twice. She met and married Marcus Baker who preceded her in death. And God saw fit to give her another amazing husband, John Duff who preceded her death as well.
Lizzie is preceded in death by her parents Judge Lee Johnson and O’Ceola Johnson; brothers, Judge Lee Johnson, Jr., Floyd Johnson; sisters: Josephine Sharp, Mary Townsend; and great granddaughter, Saniyah Morris.
Lizzie was diagnosed with stage 4 aggressive lung cancer, April 2025. However, she transitioned peacefully due to respiratory complications. God allowed us to enjoy the life of our beautiful Mother for many years.
Heaven truly gained an angel on May 27, 2025. Lizzie made her peaceful transition to glory. Loved ones left to cherish her memories. Daughters: Marilyn Johnson, Mary Armstead-Watkins (Marvin-preceded Lizzie in death), and Sylvia Armstead all of California, Stephanie Armstead-Hornbuckle (Oliver) of Georgia. Seven grandchildren: Timothy Bennett, Marvin Watkins Jr., Marquis Watkins, Erica Ford, Jamara Myers (Sincere), Royce Duncan, Oliver Hornbuckle II; Three great grandchildren: Kaliyah Myers, Isaiah Morris, Saniyah, Morris (preceded Lizzie in death); two loving sisters, Bertha Thomas and Sandra Williams. A host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
