Lissette De Los Milagros Simon, 58, passed away October 09, 2023. She resided in Lakewood, CA at the time of her passing. Known for her fierce strength and unwavering dedication to those she loved Lissette is survived by her two children Aliah Reza Khan, 27, and Ahmad Reza Khan, 24.
Lissette De Los Milagros Simon was born in Havana, Cuba on May 30th, 1965. Born to Rolando Simon and Migdalia Clotide Morales, Lissette was the fifth of six children. Lissette immigrated to the United States of America at three years old with her father and 4 of her siblings. Her mother and eldest brother remained in Cuba for some time after. With the help of the Catholic Charities Lissette and her family landed in New Orleans, Louisiana, where they remained for two years before moving to Inglewood, California.
Lissette would remain in Los Angeles County for the rest of her life. Lissette attended St. John Chrysotom's until 8th grade and St. Bernards’ Catholic high school until she graduated from high school in 1983. She attend El Camino College, but ultimately decided to join the work force. Lissette spent her early twenties stomping around Santa Monica, California where she worked as a book keeper for a property management company. Around this time Lissette was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
She met her husband Hassan Reza Khan in 1992 shortly after he immigrated to the United States of America from Bangladesh. They were married on June of 1994, and divorced 24 years later. Six weeks after her marriage to Hassan, Lissette’s father Rolando Simon passed away after a decades long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Her first child, Aliah, was born in the early hours of a fall morning in 1996. Her second, Ahmad, followed in 1999. The family moved to Lakewood, after Lissette and Hassan bought their first home. Ahmad was diagnosed with Autism shortly after.
Lissette devoted herself to advocating for her son, Ahmad. Through life’s many trials, she remained positive, funny, and a symbol of motherhood. Lissette was a dedicated public servant and worked with foster youth in Orange County for nearly a decade.
After many years of battling diabetes, Lissette was also diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease, and had open heart surgery in 2015. That was when she retired from working with Foster youth. After her heart surgery, Lissette had to begin dialysis treatments three times a week. In 2019, she survived a head on collision, that occurred on the way to dialysis, where she broke 16 bones in her body. Lissette passed away on October 9th, at Kaiser in Downey.
Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Long Beach, CA.
