Linda Magante Ang was born on May 30, 1948, in Romblon, Philippines, as the oldest child of Salvador and Virginia Ang. She was the oldest sister of Elsa and Evelyn. She studied medical technology (now called clinical laboratory science) at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila and graduated in 1969. She immigrated to the United States the following year, first settling in Peoria, Illinois. In 1977, she then moved to Los Angeles, California, after getting a job at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center, where she worked for the next 42 years until she retired in October 2019. She married Job Angcaco Sy on September 3, 1988, and she had her only son, Job Andrew Sy, Jr., on April 30, 1992. Through her marriage, she became stepmother to Anna Lissa and Joanalyn. Shortly after retirement, she was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, requiring peritoneal dialysis, and also multiple myeloma, requiring chemotherapy. Chemotherapy was eventually stopped after she became allergic to the medications. She was previously independent with her dialysis, even driving herself to her own appointments and refilling her own medications, until an incident at home in May 2022 left her semi-conscious until her son came home from work. She eventually was also diagnosed with atrial fibrillation and later with sick sinus syndrome, which causes her heart rate to drop to compensate for the fast rate of atrial fibrillation, eventually requiring a pacemaker. After a long battle with multiple health issues, Linda passed away on May 28, 2025, two days short of her 77th birthday. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills.
