It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Linda Beverly Borses, on November 10, 2024.
Linda was born in Dayton, Ohio on May 4, 1941, moving to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the age of 4. She graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1959 and subsequently attended the University of Pittsburgh in 1963, where she received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Upon graduation, Linda moved to Southern California where she spent the rest of her life. Initially, Linda taught business classes at Hollywood High School, where she was so young and cute that the students and faculty sometimes mistook her for a student. Linda continued to teach at several other high schools around Los Angeles through the sixties and early seventies. Due in part to the 1971 San Fernando earthquake — Linda contacted Bekins to help her escape the California earthquakes — Linda met Larry Borses, a Bekins salesperson at the time, who swept her off her feet and who convinced her to stay and to be his wife. Larry has been her loving husband for the last 49 years.
Linda was the ultimate mother: the APM (All Purpose Mom) as she was called. She was “great at everything,” giving her time and effort selflessly to help others with the utmost of patience and kindness. Her easy going, honest and unassuming personality, combined with a remarkable degree of meticulousness, creativity, and intelligence, creating a beloved matriarch to all who knew her.
She was one of the first individuals in our family to dive into computers, software applications and the internet. When others were still using their Day Planners, Linda was banking online. Linda taught private computer lessons to seniors after moving to the desert in the late 1980s. Over the past seven years, she has served as the Director of Operations of the World Affairs Council of the Desert, an organization of over 600 members delivering unparalleled perspectives on global and national affairs. As Director, Linda created their website, developed their programs and ran their events.
Linda is survived by her devoted husband Larry, her loving daughter Laurel (Puff) Bernhard (husband Gregg Bernhard), stepson Evan Borses (wife Mary Borses), five grandchildren, Adin Bernhard, Mia Bernhard, Ryan Borses, Monique Borses, and Trevor Borses (wife Lizbeth Borses), brother Harvey Schein (wife Elaine Schein), and preceded in death by her parents, Mary (Pratt) and Isadore Jay Schein.
Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Cathedral City, CA. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 17th at 12pm at Temple Sinai of Palm Desert.
