Linda Evelyn Bickman-Hubbard

November 12, 1944 — February 8, 2014

Linda Evelyn Bickman was born November 12, 1944 to the late Esther Evelyn Graham and Joseph Bickman in New Orleans, LA.
Linda attended New Orleans Public School for her early education. In 1970, she gave birth to her only son, Brian Bickman, enduring hardship as a single parent while raising Brian and pursuing educational and career opportunities.
Linda attended Sidney Collier Vocational Technical School in New Orleans, and completed a certified course in welding and fitting in 1982. She also attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans for her formal education and earned an Associate in Business Studies degree in Computer Information Systems in 1987.
A devoted Catholic and loving mother, Linda instilled positive values in Brian, often sacrificing personal goals and ensuring Brian was focused on achieving success. Brian quoted his mother as having told him, "You can do anything you put your mind to son."
In 1988, Linda and Alvin Hubbard met. They married on January 20, 1989 at City Hall in New Orleans during a private ceremony. Linda worked at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans as a Buyer of medical supplies for 17 years, retiring in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina ravaged her hometown. Displaced by the hurricane, Linda and Alvin re-located to La Quinta, CA, and started anew.
Linda enjoyed spending quality time with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren. Alvin remembers Linda as a strong, beautiful and wonderful wife. He said, "Linda was my best friend and strong inspiration."
Linda was preceded in death by her eldest brother, Charlie Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Hubbard; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Maryjane Bickman; grandchildren, Maria, Christopher, and Maya; brothers, Joseph Bickman and Arthur Graham; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Poem
If Roses Grow in Heaven
If roses grow in heaven,
Lord please pick a bunch for me,
place them in my Mother's arms
and tell her they're from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her,
and when she turns to smile,
place a kiss upon her cheek
and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy,
I do it every day,
but there's an ache within my heart
that will never go away.
