Lina T. Bustamante

May 19, 1947 — October 22, 2020

Evangelina "Lina" Bustamante passed away shortly before 4:00PM on Thursday, October 22, 2020 in the presence of family at her home in Pasadena, California. Lina was born on May 19, 1947 in Pasay City, Philippines, to Ignacio Bustamante and Cecilia (Trajano) Bustamante. She was their 4th of 6 children and youngest daughter.

In 1967, Lina graduated from MIT (Mapua Institute of Technology) in the Philippines with a Degree in Accounting. Four years later, at 24, she became the controller of a private company. She also worked at the Central Bank of the Philippines as an Auditor of rural bank branches allowing her to travel throughout the country. In 1980, Lina decided to immigrate to the United States to join her two sisters who were already here. After several years in the U.S., she began her career at the City of Los Angeles where she worked for 25 years. When Lina retired in 2016 she was the Head of Financial Services for the Department of Building and Safety.

Lina was very devoted to her family. When her oldest sister married and moved to the U.S. she took over the role of maintaining the family home and supporting her parents and two older aunts, who lived with the family. When Lina's parents and one surviving aunt had emigrated from the Philippines to the U.S. they lived with Lina at her Pasadena home. Lina continued to support them until their passings - her mother and father in 2001 and 2005, respectively, and her aunt in 2013. When her nieces and nephews were young and off from school in the summers, it was at her house where they stayed to be watched by their grandparents.

Lina was a faithful and active member of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (Church of Christ). Throughout her adult life she was an officer in the Finance and was the lead treasurer for the Pasadena congregation since the mid-1990s.

Lina also enjoyed spending time with her friends, loved going out to eat and trying new restaurants, and last but not least traveling.

Lina was a breast cancer survivor after being diagnosed in 2015. And in June 2020 she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia and fought it bravely for 4 months.

Brothers Eddie, who passed away in 2009, and Ronaldo, who died as a child during WWII, preceded her in death as well.

Lina is survived by her siblings, Nora, Evelyn, and Edgar; brother-in-law Ani; sisters-in-law Chit and Remi; nieces Leni (husband, Mel), Abegail (husband, Lloyd), and Charlene; nephews Bryan (wife, Claudia), Chester, and Chad; grand-nieces Cailyn, Macie, Elliot, Araya, Delphine, and Cameryn; and not to mention a host of long-time friends.

Due to COVID-19 protocol, the viewing will be livestreamed through a private link for 15 minutes on Wednesday, November 11, from 12:30 PM - 12:45 PM. Afterwards, a link to the recording of the livestream will be posted here.

The interment will be held on November 12 at 3:00PM at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. It will be open to those who wish to attend since it is an outdoor gathering. If you choose to join the family at the grave site we respectfully request attendees to wear masks and practice social distancing. Upon arriving at Forest Lawn stop at the information booth for instructions. The interment will begin with a procession. Please plan to arrive by 2:30PM
