With great sorrow we announce the death of our beloved mother, Lily. She died peacefully in her home in Newbury Park on May 22, 2012. Lily was born in Liverpool, England on January 7, 1917. She raised three children, John, Jeffrey and Susan with her husband, John Armstrong Courtie, Jr. During World War II her husband, John, was in the King's Liverpool Regiment (then the East Lancashire Regiment) of the British Army serving in England, India and Burma while she worked at Napier & Son Aircraft Engine manufacturer (a munitions factory) and ran a lathe to bore out the piston cylinders for the Sabre engines (similar to the Spitfire Airplane). As a family they emigrated to the United States in 1951 and became naturalized citizens in 1958. Lily worked at Dart Industries for over 20 years and retired in 1979. She loved to travel and went to many places: England, Paris, Hong Kong, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean and New England. After her husband, John, passed away, she moved to Newbury Park. She also loved to volunteer and joined several clubs in the San Fernando Valley and a few in the Newbury Park area serving as secretary, financial secretary and President. Her hobbies included reading, knitting, crosswords, painting and telling jokes. She always had a positive attitude and loved to laugh.
Up until her stroke in March, she was still active in her community and was living independently. She never wanted to be a burden on her children; she was a resilient, strong woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. She will be best remembered for her thoughtfulness and kindness. She will always be in our hearts.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Armstrong Courtie who passed away in 1987. She is survived by her children, John A.Courtie, Jeffrey G. Courtie, Susan E. Dixon and her daughter-in-laws, Linda Courtie & Melissa Courtie and son-in-law, Randy Dixon. She also leaves her four Granddaughters, Andrea Courtie, Christine Courtie, Laura Courtie and Denise Courtie and one Great-Granddaughter, Vivienne Timmermann along with many nieces, nephews and friends.
