Lex Joseph Hebert was born in Inglewood, California. His family relocated from Los Angeles County to Orange County, and then to Las Vegas, Nevada. Lex graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1967. It was there that he had met and married his first wife, Sue Langton. Together, they welcomed his first daughter, Robin Lynn in 1968. He loved sharing colorful stories of his time in Vegas where he dealt Craps at the El Cortez, drove Taxi, and drag raced down the strip and backroads.
He later moved back to California and worked alongside his brother-in-law, Alan Faulhaber for his Dad's construction company. It was during this time that Alan's truck broke down in Long Beach. When Lex showed up to help him, he met the love of his life, Susan Andrade. She was packing up Christmas decorations in her garage when he pulled up, blocking her driveway. When she asked Lex to move his truck, it was love at first sight for him, and he pursued her until they had their first date. They bought their family home in Buena Park in 1984, and welcomed their first daughter together, Brittany Erin on December 31st, 1985. After 6 years together, they married on September 3rd, 1986. They later welcomed their second, and Lex's third daughter, Kendall Renee on April 14th, 1992.
After having his own construction company for a while, he transitioned into the insurance restoration business where throughout the years he was hired as a Superintendent for numerous companies including Emercon, ATI and finally, BELFOR. He took enormous pride in his work and was well-respected in the industry.
He could fix anything and did everything to perfection. His hobbies included renovating his home for his family and restoring two classic Harley Davidson bikes from the ground up which he enjoyed taking on bike runs with his friends. He was a history enthusiast who had a keen knowledge of aviation, naval ships and the military. Lex could point out any plane or ship and tell you what it was. He loved helping his daughters with their history courses. Lex was an extensive collector of sports memorabilia, mainly for the NFL and NHL. He took delight in visiting his friends at the local card shop. His favorite sports teams were the Washington Redskins, Los Angeles Kings, and Detroit Red Wings.
Lex's sense of humor was incomparable. He could make anyone and everyone laugh with his sharp wit, and you could always find him by the sound of his own infectious laugh. Those closest to him will also remember his big heart. He was a devoted lover of animals, particularly concerned over the welfare of dogs and cats. His home was always filled with rescued pets, including his two favorites, Sammy J, and Jerry Lee. Of course his greatest pride and joy was his family. Â
He and Susan bought their vacation home in Earp, CA along the Colorado River in 2002. This began one of Lex's favorite chapters of his life, sharing many wonderful memories with his wife, daughters, and friends there. He always envisioned himself retiring at the river, enjoying the beautiful sunsets, thunderstorms, campfires, barbecues, being out on his boat, the outdoor desert gun range, and his routine trips to Emerald Cove for his lotto tickets. Â
In 2016, Lex was diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. This event proved Lex's internal strength. Through his persistence and bravery, he demonstrated to his family and friends that he was a fighter. After completing months of chemotherapy and radiation therapy, he underwent a lobectomy in attempt to have the tumor removed on May 8th, 2017. The surgery was a success and since then, he remained cancer free.
On February 7th, he fell in his driveway, shattering his shoulder and fracturing his pelvis. He was taken to West Anaheim Medical Center where he contracted Pneumonia and two weeks later was transferred to Kindred Hospital of Santa Ana where he spent his final week. His death was unexpected and we mourn him every day. Lex will be remembered for being a man of integrity; he is a role model for his children and those who knew him. Lex Hebert was a great husband, loving son, father, grandfather, brother and a wonderful friend to many.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Susan; and children, Robin (John), Brittany (Rob), and Kendall. He leaves his grandchildren, Sarina, John, Bella and Saxon. He is also survived by his siblings, Linda, Nanette (Alan), Suzette (Tom), and sister-in-law, Iris (Jerry). He was preceded in death by his brother, Christopher, sister, Lori, mother, Beverly, father, Robert and mother-in-law, Lee.
We are celebrating his life at his daughter Brittany's home on April 27th, at 1:00 PM.Â
