Salem, NH: Levi J. Daigle, 96, of Salem, NH and a former longtime resident of Haverhill, Massachusetts, died Thursday evening at Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in Derry.
Born in Sainte Ignace, N.B. Canada, son of the late Joseph and Celina (Ouellette) Daigle, he attended local schools and served in the Canadian Army during W.W.II. He moved to Haverhill as a young man and worked as a Compositor for eighteen years at The Haverhill Gazette until 1976. He was then employed by Eastern Canvass Co. until his retirement in 1990.
A member of Saints Mary and Joseph Parish of Salem, the Haverhill Lodge of Elks and the International Typographical Union, he was a former member of All Saints Parish and Saint Joseph Parish of Haverhill where he had served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years and a member of the Saint Joseph and All Saints Council of the Knights of Columbus. He was a longtime avid fan of the Boston Bruins and also enjoyed the Boston Red Sox. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working out in his yard.
The husband of the late Alice (LeBlanc) Daigle, he is survived by two daughters, Majella Daigle and Claudette Daigle, both of Salem, a brother Camille Daigle of Massachusetts and a sister Margaret Richard of Canada, a grandson and his wife Thomas and Stacey Daigle of Riverview, Florida, three great grandchildren, Thomas, Tyler and Hannah Daigle, his companion of twenty years Claire McCarthy of Pelham and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends may call on Monday, February 16, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow, NH. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:45 from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Joseph Church, Main St., Salem. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Haverhill.
