Leta Gegarian Chavez
1931 – 2022

Leta Chavez passed away on Wednesday, February 16th after 90 remarkable years of life. The youngest of 3 girls born to Avedis and Rose Jigarigian, Leta grew up in Los Angeles and spent the last 68 years of her life as a resident of Burbank.
After graduating from high school in 1949, she began working at the Los Angeles Examiner where she met Tom, her husband of 64 years.
Leta was an avid bowler, participating in several teams and frequently taking her children to the bowling alley when they were young. She found peace in nature and often returned to her favorite lakes in the mountains. She was passionate about animals and provided a home to many dogs over the course of her life.
But her greatest joy was her family. She loved gathering around a table full of home-cooked food with all the generations of her family from her children and grandchildren to those she considered family like neighbors and friends who had nowhere else to go.
She is survived by her husband, Tom, her children Denise Johnson (Walter) and Vincent Chavez, and her grandchildren, Mitchell and Rebecca.
There will be a viewing on Saturday, March 5th from 2:00-4:00 in the afternoon at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills and a celebration of her life at Westminster Presbyterian Church 542 N. Buena Vista St. on Saturday, March 12th at 1:00 in the afternoon.
