Leonardo Valdes Serrano

February 10, 1941 — July 25, 2022

Leonardo Valdes Serrano, 81, born on February 10, 1941, in Manila, Philippines, passed away July 25, 2022.

He earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of the Philippines. After a year of teaching non-E.E. students at UP, he went to the United States and earned his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. Leonardo met his late wife, Dolores, while she was completing her nursing fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

While in Minnesota, he was a part of Rosemount Engineering. The company stated, "His contributions with us have been significant ones and it would be difficult for us to replace him." His contributions included work on pressure and temperature sensing devices for missiles and aircraft in the U.S. defense and space programs, specifically on the Apollo mission to the moon (as well as others).

Leonardo recently retired from Mangan Incorporated, a local engineering firm. In his retirement, he taught programming and robotics to twelfth graders and was working on his certification to teach STEM classes to give back to the community.

Travelling, cooking, photography, and ballroom dancing were all passions of his. He will be dearly missed by his son, daughter, grandchildren, in-laws, extended family, and friends who affectionately referred to him as Nardi.

Viewing hours will take place at Forest Lawn in Cypress, California, upstairs in the Devotion Room.
Thursday, August 4th from noon - 4 PM
Friday, August 5th from 1 PM - 4 PM

The funeral mass service will take place outdoors in front of the Ascension Mosaic inside the gates at Forest Lawn on Saturday, August 6th, at 8:30 AM. The family requests that guests dress in light colors (similar to a summer garden party).
