Leonardo Maragay passed away on July 5, 2023, at the age of 77. He was lovingly surrounded by his family at the time of his passing.
Leonardo was born on July 20, 1945, to Alberto and Victoria (Gaela) Maragay in Lucena, Quezon, Philippines. He was the eldest of seven children. Leonardo graduated from the University of the East with a B.S. in Business Administration and worked at the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS). He met his wife, Imelda, in 1973 and they were married in 1975. They immigrated to the United States in 1980. After holding various occupations to establish their life in the U.S., Leonardo spent most of his career in the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 24 years of service.
Leonardo, known by friends and family as Ding or Narding, was always the life of the party. He loved cracking jokes, cooking (especially his world famous dinuguan and dynamite), working out, going to casinos, watching movies, and galavanting with family and friends. He was very generous and always willing to help with any ‘utos utos’ (errands). You would often hear him say, “Life is short. Relax. Enjoy. Have fun!” And that is exactly what he did. We know he is now partying in heaven and watching over us.
He is survived by his wife, Imelda; his children and their spouses, Glen and RaeAnn, and Imee and Alex; and his 5 grandchildren, Margeaux, Sebastian, Orion, Amelia and Luke. He is also survived by his mom, Victoria, and siblings, Mercedes, Maria Luisa, Teresita, Maria Victoria, and Francisco, in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Alberto, and brother, Roberto.
He would love to be remembered with stories that celebrate what was good and blessed in his life. Family and friends are invited to the following:
Visitation: Thursday, July 27, between 10:00am-8:00pm
A prayer service presided by Father Fred Pinuela will take place at 5:30pm.
