Leonardo Santos Goco | March 28, 1933 – September 7, 2025 | Age 92 | San Bernardino, California
Leonardo Santos Goco passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, in San Bernardino, California. He was 92 years old and would have turned 93 on his next birthday.
Born on March 28, 1933, in Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines, Leonardo was the youngest of four children to Trinidad Santos and Nemecio Goco. Affectionately nicknamed “Totoy” by his family, he was the beloved brother of twins Leandro and Leovegildo, and their sister Lydia—all of whom preceded him in death.
Leonardo is survived by his children Bernadette, Eliezar, and Normandy. He was also the proud father of Rainerio and Alexis, who, along with his beloved wife of 42 years, Lourdes Peña Goco, passed before him. Leonardo and Lourdes were married until her passing in 2002.
A graduate of the University of the Philippines, Leonardo earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, majoring in Hygiene and Bacteriology. He began his career in the Philippines as a pharmaceutical salesman and distributor, where he became known as “Nards” among colleagues and friends. He worked for Mars Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company before founding his own distribution firm, BERNA Philippines—named using the initials of his five children—from the family home on General Lim Street in Tondo, Manila.
In the 1970s, Leonardo immigrated to the United States with his family, settling in South El Monte, California. There, he became known as “Leo” or “Leonard” and worked as a Recovery Agent in the Collections Department of Bank of America, where he remained until his retirement in his mid-60s. Following retirement, he and Lourdes moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and enjoyed their later years together until her passing. Leonardo eventually settled in San Bernardino, living independently in a quiet ranch-style home in Arrowhead Farms.
Throughout his later years, Leonardo gave generously of his time and resources. He volunteered at the local Senior Companion Program in San Bernardino, assisting elderly and disabled members of the community with compassion and patience. His service, as a volunteer, brightened the lives of many people that otherwise, would have been isolated from the community. He also remained deeply connected to his roots, consistently offering financial assistance to family and friends in the Philippines who were less fortunate—always quietly and without seeking recognition.
Leonardo found his greatest joy when his entire family was gathered under one roof. He cherished taking his children on vacations—especially to big cities, with memorable stops at beaches and visits to extended family along the way. These moments remained among his most treasured memories.
An avid bowler, Leonardo was a natural talent and often joined bowling leagues with Lourdes and their close friends. He also enjoyed spending time in Las Vegas or at Yaamava Casino, where he found excitement—and relaxation—playing the slot machines.
Leonardo will be remembered as a sharp and savvy businessman, a skilled negotiator, a charismatic storyteller, and above all, a devoted father and family man. Though he often reflected about living to 105, he lived a full and meaningful life—always on his own terms.
Eternal rest grant unto Leonardo, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
