Leonard Raymond Young was born in Long Beach, California on December 15, 1955 to Georgia May and Julius Raymond Young and went to be with Jesus on November 1, 2020. He was a beloved husband of 35 years, father of 6, and friend, and was truly a servant of all. He is survived by his wife Gina, his children - Erin (and his son-in-law, Jon), Alan, Ryan, Anna, Andy, and Evan - and his grandson, William. He also is survived by his sister Julie, and brothers Wayne and Tom.
Leonard was a kind, gentle man after God's heart and was a godly example to everyone around him. His faith was the cornerstone of his life and he faithfully served the Lord at his church in Newport Beach for over 20 years. Prior to that, he served at First Baptist Church in Long Beach, CA, which he had attended since his birth. Leonard read through the Bible several times throughout his life and had memorized the book of Psalms. He was faithful even when he wasn't feeling well, quietly went about his service without calling attention to himself, and was often one of the first to arrive at church to set up for his ministry role and one of the last to leave after he had finished packing his tools back up again.
Leonard called himself a software architect and his coworkers describe him as a wonderful leader, a true team player, a calming presence, a friend to all, and someone who always did a job to the best of his ability with a smile on his face as he brought out the best in those around him.
He was kind, gentle, generous, and always looking out for and caring for others in a million tiny, quiet ways, often behind the scenes. He took time to encourage and build others up. He was creative and loved photography, videography, and music. He played the guitar and the piano, often for his church as well as at home, where he filled the house with music.
He is deeply missed by his family, friends, and those who knew him.
