Leonard Anthony Donvito

Leonard Anthony Donvito, 88, born on October 8, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, passed away April 24, 2014. As a young man, he played college football and eventually semi-pro ball for the Tasker Bears. Retiring at 65 from teaching and coaching high school football, wrestling, and a variety of other sports, he was a positive influence on the lives of thousands of students over the years. He also coached college wrestling in southern California at the University of La Verne and Whittier College where he was named SCIAC wrestling coach of the year in 1978. Anthony was the oldest of four children. He was preceeded in death by his sister Francis, and survived by his brother Larry, his sister, Eleanor Doyle, his wife Eleanor Donvito, his three sons, Leonard, Gary, and Robert, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He resided in Palmdale, California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Glendale. A viewing will be held in their main building on Friday, May 9, 2014, from noon to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Church of the Recessional, Forest Lawn, Glendale, on Saturday, May 10, 2014 beginning at 10:00. Directions to the reception following the service will be provided.
