Leo Kenneth Heuler

February 23, 1919 — May 30, 2018

Leo Kenneth Heuler passed away peacefully at his home in Irvine CA on the evening of May 30 2018. The elder of two boys, he was born February 23 1919 in Fellows California. His father, Leo Heuler, was a practicing MD, and his mother, Hepsie Heuler was an RN. Fellows was an oil lease town in western Kern County, and his parents worked for the oil company treating employees who lived in the town.

. Kenneth graduated from Taft High School and, following two years at junior college, entered the dental program at UC San Francisco. While in dental college he was awarded a Bachelor's degree at UC Berkeley. He completed his DDS degree in 1942 and was immediately drafted into the Army where he served during World War II both in the US and the South Pacific as well as occupied Japan.

In 1938 he met the love of his life, Edith Fordtran of Texas, and married her in 1942 just before entering the Army. They were happily married for almost 74 years, and had two children: Elizabeth Anne (Moen) and Walter Kenneth. He is survived as well by his brother, George Barton, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Following his discharge from the Army in late 1945, Kenneth and Edith moved to Anaheim where he joined a dental practice. Kenneth practiced dentistry in Anaheim for 25 years before retiring to oversee investments. He was active in his church, the First Presbyterian Church of Anaheim, and engaged in his community, serving on the Anaheim Union High School Board of Trustees for eight years. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Children's Hospital of Orange County (CHOC), including many years as board chairman there, before retiring from his CHOC involvement at age 93.

Both Kenneth and Edith were enthusiastic sports people, and both played golf from their late 30's onward. Kenneth helped develop and operate several golf courses in Southern California, including Western Hills Country Club, Mile Square Golf Courses and El Prado Golf Courses. Kenneth also was a lifelong Cal fan, holding season tickets to football games for nearly 30 years. He enjoyed traveling to the games with Edith, and later with his children.

In the mid 1990's, Kenneth and Edith left Anaheim to move into Regents Point in Irvine. Both were quite active in that community and well known among the residents and staff.
Services will be held at Forest Lawn, 4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress on June 19th at 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to CHOC Childrens (www.choc.org).
