Lenore Marilyn Russell

Lenore Russell, 88, was born on March 4, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York to Erich and Mathilde (Tillie) Gross. She was active in her children's school life, volunteering as room mother, Sunday School teacher, and den mother during their elementary years. Later, she earned a Master's degree, renewed her teaching credential, and became a substitute teacher in Orange County before retiring at age 68. She had a passion for traveling and had been all around the world on her twice-a-year trips. Lenore became an avid line dancer later in life, attending classes at 3 local Senior Centers. She loved koala bears, the Dodgers, the color purple, and most of all, Frank Sinatra. After her husband, Richard Russell passed away in 2013, she moved up to Modesto to be closer to her daughter. There she continued to keep active, participating in Senior exercise classes and volunteering at the school in which her daughter taught by listening to 1st & 2nd graders practice their reading. Lenore passed away on March 17, 2018, a week after suffering a stroke. She is survived by her sister, Arlene Averbuch of New York; son, Evan Matin of Orange, CA; daughter, Correy Grubaugh of Modesto, CA; step-daughter, Sandra Padilla of Diamond Bar, CA; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-grand child, a niece in FL, and a nephew in NY. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Randy Matin in 2002. Services were held on Fri., March 23 at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, California.
