Lena Itchon Tabon

July 22, 1938 — July 27, 2022

Magdalena Itchon Tabon, passed peacefully on Wednesday, July 27, 2022. She was 84 years old.

Magdalena legally changed her name to Lena when she applied for citizenship. She was born on July 22, 1938 in Villasis, Pangasinan, Philippines to Francisca and Francisco Itchon. She was the second oldest of 13 children. Lena graduated from the University of the East in the Philippines with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce with an emphasis in Accounting. She worked in the Accounting Department at the Philippine Tobacco Administration and also passed the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant.

Then at the age of 27, Lena immigrated to Vancouver, Canada and lived there for four years. She moved to Southern California at the request of her older sister, Linda, who needed help raising two young boys while her husband, Mariano, was on deployment with the U.S. Navy. This was just one of many sacrifices that Lena made without any hesitation for her family.

Lena was loyal to Legal Aid Foundation of Long Beach for over 30 years as their accountant. While working full-time, she also became a licensed real estate agent and notary public. She was a devoted wife who loved traveling, spending time with her family, playing in slot tournaments and watching game shows. Lena also enjoyed going on long walks to the park with her husband, Al and dancing with him at the family events.

She was a devout Catholic who always carried a rosary in her purse. She will be remembered as a loving, caring and very generous person, always thinking of others first. Because of Lena's unconditional love, unending generosity, and numerous sacrifices, her twelve siblings were able to live successful and prosperous lives in the United States. She was a hero and a legend to her family.

Lena is survived by her husband of 37 years, Al; stepchildren, Todd and Tanya, eight siblings; and many nieces and nephews. Her cheerful attitude, bright smile, determined and tenacious spirit will be dearly missed
