Lelia Hebert Shaw
1922-2013

A native of Abbeville, LA and a resident of LaVerne, CA Lelia Hebert Shaw died July 15, 2013 at her son's California home under hospice care. She will be laid to rest at Hebert Cemetery in Abbeville, LA with Deacon Joe Hebert officiating the grave site service on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 2 p.m.

After serving in the Navy Nursing Corp during World War II, Lelia stayed in California and married Earl Shaw. She and her husband ran a farm in the Santa Ynez Valley and together raised three children. Lelia was very involved in the PTA and Farm Bureau. Later in her career she worked for over 17 years for the University of California, Santa Barbara. After retiring to Louisiana she enjoyed volunteering at the Bares Center in Erath (now known as The Arc of Vermilion) and enjoyed the closeness of all her brothers, sisters and any nieces and nephews.

Lelia is survived by her two sons, Robert Shaw of LaVerne, CA and Richard Shaw of Sebastopol, CA, and her daughter Rosemary Barenbrugge and her husband Larry of Conifer, CO, three grandsons, Jason Shaw and his wife Amy of Costa Mesa, CA, Randy Shaw of Camarillo, CA, Kristopher Shaw and his wife Beth of Sebastopol, CA, and one sister, Philomene Hebert Suire of Abbeville, LA.
Lelia is preceded in death by her parents Stanislas and Celestine Hebert; 4 sisters, Alphonsine Bares, Angeline Hebert, Louise Broussard, Lillian Broussard and five brothers, Henry Louis Hebert, Claude Hebert, Wilton Hebert, Raymond Hebert and Alton Hebert.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the VNA and Hospice Group of Southern California for their kindness and good care in her last month. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Arc of Vermilion, 809 S. Severin Street, Erath, LA 70533.
