Lee McPhearson, Jr.

Lee “Vel” Authur McPhearson Jr., 60, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025. Born on August 11, 1964, in Torrance, California to Joyce and Lee McPhearson Sr. He was the eldest of his 2 siblings.

Vel graduated from Carson High School in 1982 and went on to pursue his passion for learning by attending various technical schools. His dedication to education and his love for science led him to the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Physics in 1993. Vel dreamed of becoming a physicist and shared his knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject with others, briefly working as a substitute teacher after graduation. 

An avid basketball fan, Vel loved the game and often enjoyed watching and playing it with friends and family. He also had a deep affection for animals, particularly dogs, who brought him great joy and hoped one day in the future to own one once again.

Vel was known for his kind heart, sharp mind, and unwavering dedication to his family. He approached life with curiosity and a deep appreciation for the world around him. Whether he was solving complex problems, sharing his love of science, or simply spending time with loved ones, Vel’s presence brought warmth and inspiration to those who knew him. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Lee McPhearson Sr. Vel leaves behind his loving mother, Joyce McPhearson; his brothers, Andre McPhearson (Burgundie) and Michael McPhearson (Briana); his nephew, Dreson; and his niece, Kari. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles and cousins who will cherish his memory. 

A celebration of Vel’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on February 20, 2025, at Forest Lawn in Cypress, California. 

Vel’s legacy of intellectual curiosity, kindness, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
