On July 5th, 2024, Lawrence Tu passed away peacefully at the age of 78, surrounded by loved ones. Born in China, he faced numerous challenges in his early years, including fleeing to Taiwan during wartime. Despite these hardships, Lawrence excelled academically, earning a full scholarship to National Taiwan University, where he met his first wife and mother of his children.
In pursuit of higher education, Lawrence immigrated to America in 1969, studying engineering at Cal Tech and Cornell University. He initially worked as an engineer for Exxon and the Gas Company before transitioning to a successful career in real estate. He was known for his resilience, hard work, and entrepreneurial spirit, eventually owning two real estate companies.
Lawrence's life was marked by both triumph and tragedy. In the early 90s, he survived gun violence that left him paralyzed, yet he continued to work, support his family, and care for his mother. He found love again with his second wife, Jennifer, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage, and welcomed his youngest daughter, Ying Ying.
As a father, Lawrence was both a disciplinarian and a source of fun, encouraging his children in various activities and hobbies. He is remembered for his patience, kindness, and unwavering support for his family. His legacy includes the values of perseverance, creativity, and practicality, which he imparted to his children.
Lawrence's memory will live on through his wife Jennifer, his children Steven, Laura, Ying Ying, and his grandchildren Xanthe, Clark, Max, Camille, and Adrian. He will be fondly remembered for his love of the beach, Paris, In-N-Out, Cheez-Its, fresh seafood, chocolate chip cookies, and red bean buns.
A celebration of Tu's life will be held, followed by a burial at "Everlasting Love." The family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his remarkable life and enduring legacy.
