Trey passed away unexpectedly at the age of 37, leaving behind a family and community who loved him deeply and will miss him terribly.Trey was a remarkable young man whose life was defined by loyalty, determination, friendship, and an enormous heart. He was a graduate of Landon School. He went on to attend Auburn University, where he was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity and formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
Despite the fact that he was taken so incredibly early, Trey lived an amazing life. He loved sports. He played football and rugby, and he was a very accomplished wrestler. He traveled the world. He especially loved his time traveling with his family in Africa, and his time in Europe. He won $10,000 in a poker tournament he entered while traveling in Alaska. He got third in a rodeo riding a bucking bronco. He spent a semester at sea visiting all of the BVI’s. He tagged sea turtles and gained his commercial skipper’s license, and open water (including night water) scuba certification. He was an Eagle Scout, and a special Olympics swimming coach. He was a member of the Kiwanis. He had many incredible adventures.
Trey was preceded in death by his beloved father, Lawrence Lithgow Smith Jr. Trey was a devoted and proud dog father to Jack, who brought him endless companionship and joy.Trey’s life was forever changed when he experienced serious medical issues following the COVID-19 vaccine and was never fully able to recover. Most recently, he was diagnosed with a virus affecting his heart. Despite everything he endured, Trey continued to be surrounded by the love of his family and friends until his unexpected passing. He is survived by his mother, Nicole (Smith) Lowry, and his stepfather, Paul Lowry, along with a huge and loving extended family who will forever carry Trey in their hearts. He leaves behind countless friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by his presence.Trey will be remembered for his strength, his loyalty, his humor, his love of family and friends, and the special place he held in the hearts of so many. His absence leaves an unimaginable void, but the memories he gave us will remain forever. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Trey’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, in honor of his grandmother, Jane Smith, or to the Epilepsy Foundation, in honor of our granddaughter, Ellie Mae Caya.Trey was deeply loved. He will be profoundly missed. And he will never be forgotten.
