Lawrence “Larry” Myron Slutsky was born on February 19, 1934 in Chicago, IL and died on January 13, 2026 in Cypress, CA.
Larry graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1955. He was a member of Phi Sigma Delta fraternity. He served in the U.S. Army for two years and was honorably discharged from Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. Larry married in 1959 and moved to California in 1962. He spent most of his career working for aerospace and aluminum processing companies.
After retiring, Larry spent a lot of time riding his bicycle. A chance meeting of other riders having coffee at a McDonald's became a pivotal moment in his life. The group grew as others joined and ultimately they called themselves the “Bike Bud Group”. For many years, the group rode together regularly, including trips to San Diego, Truckee and Albuquerque. These were some of the happiest times in his life!
He also loved playing bridge! He learned to play in college, started playing many years later at the Long Beach Bridge Club and eventually at Leisure World. He became a Life Master in 1990. Larry was a former President of the Leisure World Seal Beach Bridge Club and was responsible for organizing beginner classes to bring in new players. Poker was another favorite way for him to spend his time.
He found joy in dancing, watching movies and listening to his favorite singer, Neil Diamond.
Larry enjoyed sports…most notably his love for the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. Despite the years of heartbreak, Larry always remained upbeat about his Chicago teams and read the Chicago Sun-Times sports page for years.
Most importantly, Larry had a unique ability to connect with everyone, doing so with a blend of humor, compassion, common sense and wisdom. He could often be heard telling a joke or story, bringing a smile to all. He leaves a legacy of goodness in our hearts.
He is survived by his two daughters: Joanne (John) and Debbie (Bruce). He will be deeply missed by his three grandchildren: Sean (Lauren), Megan (Chris) and Julian (Morgan), and two great-grandchildren, Isla and Theo.
