Lawrence Stanley Graven, 84, born on May 15, 1929, in New York City, New York, passed away January 5, 2014. He resided in South Pasadena at the time of his passing. He arrived in southern California through the Panama Canal when he was less than two years old. He graduated from Inglewood High School, then attended El Camino Junior College, until the U.S. Army came up with a new plan: a couple of years of service in Fairbanks, Alaska. The G.I. bill enabled Larry to graduate in Business Administration from USC, then obtain his L.L.B. from USC in 1959. As a top student, he served on Law Review. He practiced business law for 38 years, most of them as a partner in the firm Grossman, Graven Perry and Block. He was business manager for the firm, the proofreader, and was known for his contracts that foresaw all the possible problems.
Larry and Judy were married in 1967, establishing a new family in South Pasadena for Larry's son Ken and Judy's daughter Marcelle and son Colin. Soon, Laura joined the family. Since Larry's favorite sport was football, USC was the perfect alma mater for him. In 1969 Larry fell in love with Jaguar automobiles when he saw his Uncle Chester Graven's collection in New York. Larry soon had Jaguars in his stable, his favorite being his 1962 E-Type. He was a continuous member of the Jaguar Owners Club of Los Angeles since 1971.
Larry is remembered for his humor, wit, interminable puns and respected for his judgment, honesty, straightforwardness and lack of pretension. He was devoted to his family and enjoyed many friends. He is survived by his wife Judith, children Kenneth and Laura, stepchildren Marcelle Greene and Colin Greene, by grandchildren Ian Graven, Bryce Graven, Chelsea Graven, Madeline Laun, Audrey Laun, Abigail Greene, Nathan Greene, and by great-grandchildren Ian Graven, Jr. and Evan Graven, and his brother William.
Larry's memorial service will be held January 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the Little Church of the Flowers, Forest Lawn, Glendale, California.
