Larry Yoshiki Yamaguchi, 85, born on October 3, 1927, in Kealia, Kauai, Hawaii, passed away July 20, 2013. He resided in Camarillo, CA at the time of his passing.
Larry was a beloved husband to Ann Natsuno Yamaguchi, a loving Daddy to Roxanne and Kathleen, a doting Grandpa to Grandson Evan, a father-in-law who was a big fan of sons-in-laws Bruce and Todd -- and a much-loved uncle to his "Ohana" and to his extended family of friends.
Larry was born to Yoshio and Taka Yamaguchi who lived and worked on a sugar plantation in Kauai. He was one of 10 children. And even though they were from very humble means, they were a family filled with love, life and laughter. Larry loved his parents and siblings so very much and remained close with all of his nieces and nephews -- both on his side and that of his wife's. He delighted in hearing about their lives and was so joyful when he got to see them or talk to them by phone.
His daughter Kathleen, wrote a moving tribute that truly paints the essence of Larry. Written by daughter Kathleen:
Dearest Friends and Family,
As some of you may have learned via Facebook, our dear sweet father passed away yesterday. He gently took our mothers hand, stood up straight and left his walker and his aches and pains behind him.
I will miss his twice daily calls, my Wednesday lunches with him and our Weekend family time. I will miss driving the backroads thru the citrus orchards with him. I will miss shopping and running errands together. I will miss watching his favorite TV shows with him.
I will miss his stories. Yes, even the same ones he told over and over again. I wish I gave him my full attention each time instead of letting my mind wander.
I will miss talking about the weather.
I know the wait staff at Main Street Cafe, Marie Callendar's and IHop will miss him. The nice people at B&B hardware, Trader Joe's and even the 99cent store, they will all miss him. Why? They didn't know his name, but he quietly and routinely walked into their lives and made them feel respected. He honored these people for their hard work, he always talked about how hard they worked.
The staff at Royal Gardens Assisted Living, they greeted us with hugs and tears this morning. They too, are grieving over him. I know they will miss his bowl of treats by the door, the candy, the chiclets, the words of gratitude. His neighbor, Rosemary, will miss her nightly PBJ that my Dad would bring to her.
Greatness comes in many forms, and our Dad truly was a Great Man. I wish you all have someone like him in your lives.
Love, Peace and Aloha,
Kathleen and Roxanne
Bruce, Evan and Todd
I stood outside tonight and the moon shone brighter and two stars snuggled up to each other and twinkled.
