Larry Lumpkin, Jr.

Larry Lumpkin, 72, of Grand Terrace, CA passed away on January 21, 2016. Born on September 12, 1953, in Memphis, Tennessee, Larry lived a life marked by dedication, innovation and unwavering faith.

Larry earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration and Marketing from Memphis State University. His education laid the foundation for a remarkable career spanning 44 years with the United States Postal Service. During his tenure at the Redlands, California branch Larry received numerous accolades for his exceptional service. Among these were the prestigious "Key to the City of San Bernardino," five consecutive "Outstanding Employee of the Year" awards, and various monetary recognitions for his contributions and service. His commitment to excellence left an indelible mark on his colleagues and community.

A proud veteran, Larry served in the United States Air Force for four years before being Honorably Discharged. His time in the military exemplified his dedication to service and country.

Larry's creativity knew no bounds. He was an inventor who held a U.S. Patent for an innovative sports game called, "Disckets." This unique creation garnered international attention, even drawing interest from the Prince of Saudi Arabia, whose staff traveled to America to assist in marketing efforts. Larry's inventive spirit reflected his ability to think outside the box and bring new ideas to life.

Faith played a central role in Larry's life. A devout Christian who believed wholeheartedly in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, he was a dedicated member of Azure Hills Seventh-Day Church located in Grand Terrace, CA for over two-decades. Larry tithed regularly and remained steadfast in his spiritual commitments.

Larry cherished his family deeply. He was predeceased by his mother, Inez Lumpkin, his father, Lawrence Lumpkin and his younger brother, William (Billy) Lumpkin. He was also a loving father to his son Marcus Lawrence Lumpkin. Though he and his ex-wife were no longer married after 26 years together, they maintained a close friendship until his passing-- a testament to Larry's kind and caring nature. He is also survived by his four sisters: Yolonda, Chrystal, Deborah, Laura and one living Aunt from his father's side Alberta Lumpkin. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his professional achievements and personal relationships, Larry found joy in creating unique ideas and products that showcased his inventive mind. His legacy as a loving father, devoted friend, accomplished professional, and creative thinker will be remembered by all who knew him.

May Larry's memory bring comfort to those who mourn his loss and inspire others through the example of a life well-lived. A Memorial Service will be held on August 28, 2026, from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Riverside National Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Military Service Memorial.
