Lana Lei Samples

August 12, 1940 — October 13, 2021

Lana Lei Samples finished her earthly mission and departed this life on October 13, 2021, at the age of 81. Lana was raised by her parents Walter and Lucille Dailey in Los Angeles where she graduated from Eagle Rock High School. Lana married Edward Samples on March 31, 1962, in Pasadena, California and were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple in September of 1966. They were happily married for 54 years until Ed's passing in 2016. Lana had three children (Jeff, Jennifer, and Gina) and five grandchildren (Alex, Jordan, Jake, Joshaua, and Indya). Lana was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She served in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations, fed the missionaries often, and was always there when people were in need. Her home was a constant gathering place for family and friends. Mom cooked everything in large quantities because there always seemed to be a friend or two over for dinner. Lana often took requests from those who came over to eat or just happened to be there at dinner time. She was an amazing cook and baker and anyone who knew her will miss her Bundt cake, chocolate pies, and macaroni salad. Lana stayed home to raise her children until they went to school and then worked at everywhere from a family friends sandwich shop and doctors' offices to delivering mail for the postal service. Mom worked hard in everything she did until her health started to interfere with her ability to do so. Even as her body slowed her down, she continued to find ways to serve others. She made everyone feel special and loved. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren and celebrated their successes any opportunity she got. Her example and unconditional love will be missed by those who love her. She loved Christmas and birthdays and pretty much any opportunity she had where she could give gifts. Mom loved everything yellow and nothing pink. Her unconditional love, service, and example will live forever in the hearts of those who love her. We miss her but know her body has been made whole again and she is reunited with her beloved husband Ed. We love you mom, and we miss you so much. Lana was preceded in death by her husband Ed, her parents, and all her six siblings. She is survived by her children Jeff (Susan), Jennifer, and Gina; her grandchildren Alex, Jordan, Jake, Joshaua, and Indya; her nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be held on November 4, 2021 at 12 pm. with a visitation prior at 11:30 am at the Old North Church located at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills with burial immediately after.
