LAN FEN ZHOU WONG

Born in Wenzhou, China on Nov 24, 1932. Her father died very young and was brought up by her dedicated mother and older siblings - 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

At the age of 19, she came to Calcutta, India to marry Chin Mei Wong on October 2, 1951. Her beauty was well known in Calcutta, we are told by friends, that many people use to drive by the shop to " look at the beautiful lady from China."

She had limited amount of education in China. She only spoke Wenchownese. In India, she got a tutor to teach her English. Eventually she could read, write and speak English. She also picked up Mandarin, Shanghainese and Cantonese from her husband and the many friends that visited our parents. Since she was living in India she was also able to speak the Indian dialect Hindi. This was a great accomplishment for a women who had no formal education.
Lan Fen was the beloved wife of Chin Mei Wong for 64 years.

Loving Mother of Mary (Simon) Wong, Anna (Stanley) Ouyang, George
(Holly) Wong, William (Veena) Wong, Stephen Wong.
Grandma of 10 Grand children: Christopher (Quyen), Andrew
(Cassandra), and Richard Wong. Matthew and Melissa Ouyang,
Stephanie, Michelle and Michael Wong. Kenneth and Kevin
Wong. 1 Great Grand child Skylar Wong.
Lan Fen was a dedicated Mother and wife. She raised 5 children and since she did not get an opportunity for education, she made sure that her children would have the best education, so she sent her children to the best schools in India. When her son George was denied a student visa, she fearlessly went to the American Consulate and got him his visa, with the officer commenting " you speak like a lawyer." She encouraged and guided her children with love and patience but never forcefully.

Besides taking care of the household and children she helped in running the most well known, successful Drycleaning business in Calcutta - Shanghai Co., tending to the customers,
accounting and payroll.

She Immigrated to California in 2013. She was very proud and happy to see her two grandsons Christopher and Andew get married and the birth of her great granddaughter Skylar
