Lamont Freeman

January 11, 1932 — May 26, 2013

Wendell C. Lamont Freeman was born on January 11, 1932 to Charles Wesley Freeman and Dora Hutchings in Tyler, Texas. He was the only child of that union. As a child, he enjoyed playing with his dog Mike and listening to the Lone Ranger on the radio.
Lamont was united in marriage to Carolyn Berry in 1961 where they blended their family of six children and resided in San Bernardino. From their union, three additional children were born. His infant son, Lamont, preceded him in death.
He began working at a very young age and spent a significant amount of time working in the meat packing industry. Later, he transitioned to the healthcare industry as a supervisor for Kaiser Hospital in its housekeeping division.
Due to a strict upbringing, Lamont felt he never had an opportunity to be a boy. Consequently, as an adult he spent a good portion of his time teasing his children and grandchildren with various pranks and practical jokes.
Lamont enjoyed listening to jazz music, spending time with his family, collecting model trains, camping, fishing, riding his motorcycle and working in his yard with his dogs by his side.
Lamont affiliated himself with the Episcopal faith but confessed Jesus as his Lord and Savior 14 years ago. On Mother's Day of this year, he affirmed his commitment to Christ. After battling several years of renal failure, on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at 1:17 p.m., Lamont entered into eternal rest.
To cherish his memory, Lamont leaves his loving wife of fifty-one years Carolyn B. Freeman, his daughters Diana Freeman, Gwendoline Hooper, Susie Williams, Loretta Jackson, and Carolyn Robinson, his sons Greg Freeman and Alan Freeman, his sister Myrtle Freeman, his son-in-law Merritt Robinson, and eighteen grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the Memory Chapel of Forest Lawn Covina Hills, at 11:00 am with Reverend Willie James Berry officiating. Burial will follow at the graveside. Following the ceremony, the family will greet friends from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Shilo Inn and Hilltop Suites, Shilo Room
