Kraisorn Ungamrung, 73, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, California. Kraisorn was born September 9, 1943 to Kawee Ungamrung and La-ied (Sangvankaeu) Ungamrung in Bangkok, Thailand, the 3rd eldest of 13 children. From a young age, Kraisorn helped his mother care for his siblings.
Kraisorn was very active in his church, Immaculate Conception in Bangkok. He was an altar server and sang in the church choir. He enjoyed watching and playing sports, especially Thai kick volleyball (takraw). Kraisorn graduated from San Gabriel Catholic School in 1960. He came to the United States and worked to support his family in Thailand. Kraisorn met his beautiful bride, Nuchanart Arakul, in 1971 and were married 2 years later in Los Angeles, California.
In 1980, Kraisorn and Nuchanart opened up their first Thai restaurant, Narttaya, in Eagle Rock, California. For the next 35 years, they owned and operated several businesses including four Thai restaurants, two popcorn/candy shops, an insurance office, and a Thai massage salon.
Kraisorn enjoyed traveling the world (over 40 countries) with his family and friends. One of his cherished past-times was to simply sit in his favorite chair and enjoy a good movie or sporting event. Occasionally he would break from his routine and put his culinary skills to work, treating everyone around him with an amazing home cooked meal. His love of dancing and karaoke were regular parts of his social activities but Kraisorn balanced his life through his faith with God. While his roots were loyal to Catholicism, he often volunteered at his wife's Buddhanamit Temple to help with events and various charities. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Kraisorn is survived by his wife, Nuchanart; son Nalenart (Dennis) Ungamrung; daughter, Kathleen (Narttaya) and her husband Tom Smart; brothers, Krival and wife Somporn, Kriliath, Krisin, Kriengsak, Kriengkai Ungamrung; sisters, Kantaluck Chaiya and Kanista Sribunruang; and many other loving cousins, nieces, nephews and relatives.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Forest Lawn, Glendale - Church of the Recessional.
