Kenneth Kiyoshi Horio

Kenneth Kiyoshi Horio, 81, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2020, at his home in Los Alamitos, California. Born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, he will be remembered fondly as a dedicated son, husband, father and grandfather. He was a retired LTC in the U.S. Army, a Vietnam veteran, and a retired engineer for the Aerospace Corporation in Los Angeles.

He is survived by his wife Jeannette of Los Alamitos, CA; daughters Debbie (Dan) Denehy of Los Alamitos, CA, and Darnell (Ed) DeMasters of Fairfax, VA; son Darren of Hilo, HI; granddaughters Nicole and Samantha Denehy, and Jeanine and Kori-lyn Horio; and furry grandchildren Maggie, Ivy and Sophie. He is also survived by his sister Amy (Kenneth) Tanaka of Hilo, HI.

While a man of few words, he will be remembered for his infinite wisdom, his dry sense of humor and his impeccable organizational skills. He was loyal, principled and flexible when it mattered … even though he was an engineer! He enjoyed crossword puzzles, tinkering on his computer, gardening, and traveling. But, one of his greatest joys was watching his granddaughters play their sports. Above all, Dad was a family man - dedicated to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was known as "Papa" to his grandchildren, and he will be missed dearly.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be no service at this time. When this crisis passes, the family plans to have a service in Hilo, Hawaii. The family thanks you for your kind words, your expressions of sympathy, and for sharing your memories.
