Kenneth Alan Graves

Kenneth Graves, long time resident of West Covina, passed away on February 13 at the City of Hope.

Ken was born in Northampton, MA on June 3, 1940 and moved to California in 1950. He graduated from West Covina High School in 1958 and earned his AA in Fire Science from Mt. Sac. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Copeland, in 1960.

Ken began his career with Oxnard Fire Department and made the move to Covina Fire Department in 1966. He enjoyed serving the community of Covina and the camaraderie of his brother firefighters, for 27 years until his retirement as an engineer in 1992.

Ken had a love for baseball and coached the Covina Fire Department Little League. He had a true passion for horse racing and owned several racehorses through the years. He enjoyed his times in the winner's circle. Ken took pleasure in watching his grandchildren's sports' activities.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Carol; his sister, Barbara Plemon; his two daughters: Gina Hyslop (James) and Lana Crawford; his five grandchildren: Jaclyn Hyslop, Joel Hyslop, Tara Crawford (Johnny Buma), Kohl Crawford, Dylan Crawford; and his treasured great-granddaughter, Skylar Buma.

Our beloved Papa, as he was known to all of his family and many friends.

Our hero, whatever will we do without him.

He will rest peacefully at Forest Lawn in Covina Hills.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the City of Hope in his memory.
