Ken Chikin Poon

Ken Chikin Poon, 65, born on July 7, 1951, in Hong Kong, China, passed December 19, 2016. He resided in El Monte, California at the time of his passing.

Ken was raised in Hong Kong, China. He started supporting his family in Hong Kong since he was 11 years old and began his restaurant career. At the same time, he also attended evening classes to continue his education. When he was in his early to mid-30's, he excelled in his career and became the General Manager for the largest Chinese restaurant chain in Hong Kong for over 10 years.

Ken immigrated to the US and arrived in the state of California in 1990. He began working as the General Manager at a well-known Chinese restaurant and several others in Los Angeles until he retired in 2014.

In 1982, Ken married Winnie in Hong Kong, China and were happily married for 34 years.

Ken was a very simple, kind-hearted, out-going, gracious, generous and loving man. His favorite foods were honey-glazed ham, dim sum, talapia (especially the head) and steaks. He enjoyed watching tennis tournaments, soccer games, Chinese shows and Chinese news channels. His favorite sport was tennis and he also enjoyed swimming at the gym. He loved playing mahjong and cards, like Big Two and Chinese Baccarat.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Poon Wai Sun and Ho Sin Ping; his six brothers and his two sisters.

Ken is survived by his spouse, Winnie Poon and his two daughters, Valerie Poon and Nicole Abucejo-Poon; his loving nieces, nephews; and many numerous relatives.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Covina, California.
