Kay Simmons-Gilpatric

Kay Simmons-Gilpatric, born on November 3, 1944 in Salem, Oregon, passed away at age 73 on July 20, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. She studied and became a Registered Nurse at Los Angeles County University of Southern California Medical Center then later earned her Bachelors Degree at University of California, Los Angeles. She lived her life in Southern California and raised a family in West Los Angeles. She loved dancing, traveling with family, and was very fond of fresh popcorn and a good movie. She also thoroughly enjoyed holiday and family gatherings as she remained an extremely active and lively member of every party. Although battling through the pain of cancer for years, it was hard to find a time where she was not laughing or smiling when surrounded by her close family, especially her grandchildren. She participated in six of the Avon Walks To End Breast Cancer, walking nearly 250 miles for this cause. Beating all odds, she battled an aggressive cancer for more than 6 years. Kay was fortunate to be the loving wife of Don K. Simmons for 27 years until he passed in 1991; she then found love again with her second husband, Cliff Gilpatric, for nearly 25 years. She is survived by: husband Cliff; daughter Debie Marsden; son Donnie Simmons; grandchildren, Scott, Claire, Clayton and Anna; and sisters, Sandy and Shirley. She also leaves behind her dog, Scooter.
