Kathryn Lucile Myrick, 98, born on April 14, 1918, in Sabatha, Kansas, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2016. She resided in San Luis Obispo, California at the time of her passing. Kathy was born April 14, 1918 in Sabetha Kansas to Herman and Lura Koch and was the oldest of their 3 children. Her sister, Lillian Yates was born in 1920 and her brother Jack Koch was born in 1923. After her family moved to Los Angeles at the height of the depression in 1929, and while helping her mom care for her younger siblings, the true nature of whom Kathy would later become emerged. A person who helps everyone without question. After graduating Manual Arts High School in 1936, she was offered a job by her sister's pediatrician and was trained as a nurse. She met her future husband the next year and married Victor Meade Myrick in February 1940.
Shortly after the end of WWII, they bought their first home in Los Angeles. In 1946, her daughter, Carol was born and in 1950, her son, Larry was born. In 1952 they relocated to Inglewood Ca. After raising her children; Kathy went to work for Sears Roebuck in 1963 where she worked until she retired in 1983 and in 1969 they relocated to Torrance Ca.
Following her retirement, she was able to realize her dream of travelling which she did a lot of. She traveled to Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, and all over the USA. She also took several Cruises and had a grand time with her sister and her best friend Ginny. She even had one special trip in 1995, after her granddaughter transferred to a college in another state. Kathy – at age 77, along with her brother Jack – drove her granddaughter's tiny little Honda from California to Florida!
In 2001 Kathy moved to San Luis Obispo to be closer to her son Larry. She enjoyed exploring the area with her good friend Ginny who also moved up from the Los Angeles area. She liked visiting her son's cabin in the Sierras and spending time in Yosemite. She always enjoyed visits from her daughter Carol and all her extended family.
Kathy is survived by her sister, Lillian Yates of Lawndale, CA; her daughter and son-in-law Carol and Roger Holdsworth of Torrance, CA; her son and daughter-in-law Larry and Peggy Myrick of San Luis Obispo, CA; Grandchildren Tim (Jennifer) Holdsworth of Torrance; Scott (Sabrina) Holdsworth of Torrance; Becky (Rick) Sawyer of Atascadero, CA; and Donn (Lee Ann) Burson of Atascadero; and Great-Grandchildren Timothy and Erinn-Kate Sawyer and Katie Burson, all of Atascadero. She is also survived by many other extended family members who loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Victor, and brother Jack.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Myrna and the staff at Green Hills Country Charm Home for the amazing care you gave to our mom (sister/grandma/great-grandma) for 7 years.
