Karen Taylor “Goggans” was born on December 7, 1946, in Mesa, AZ, and passed away on March 2, 2024, in Whittier, CA. She was a beloved civil servant who dedicated her career to the Department of Defense working at the Defense Contract Audit Agency. Karen began her journey as an intern in 1977 and through her hard work and dedication, she received 9 awards and 7 promotions, showcasing her unwavering commitment to excellence. She supervised numerous sub-offices auditing renowned companies such as Rockwell, General Dynamics, McDonnell Douglas, Northrop, and many others.
Her professional journey was a testament to her perseverance as she started as a GS-07 and concluded her impactful career as a GS-15. Karen's intelligence and wisdom were not only recognized within the workplace but also by all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her quirky personality coupled with her exceptional intelligence made her a memorable presence in the lives of many.
Aside from her successful career, Karen found joy in simple pleasures like sharing jokes on Facebook, indulging in Britbox movies, and caring for her beloved animals. Her hobbies were a reflection of her compassionate nature and kind spirit.
Karen's proudest accomplishment was being the matriarch who lifted her family by strength and determination, demonstrating her strength and resilience in the face of adversity. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Karen is preceded in death by her mother Mary Trumbull “Hogle,” father Julian Goggans, brother Lawrence Goggans, brother Steve Goggans, and stepfather George Trumbull Sr. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Smethurst; brother George Trumbull Jr.; grandsons Bryce and Kyle Larsen; nephews Matt and Adam Goggans; along with other family members and friends.
A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate Karen's life will be held on May 4th, 2024, at Forest Lawn - Cypress in Cypress, CA. Columbarium of Precious Song.The service will commence at 10:30 AM with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Lunch will be served immediately after internment at her daughter Sandy’s house. Karen Taylor “Goggans” will always be remembered for her remarkable achievements in both her professional career and personal life. May she rest in peace.
