Karen Boosalis

November 7, 1943 — February 7, 2025

Today, we gather to celebrate the life of a truly remarkable woman, Karen Ruth Boosalis. Karen was born on November 7, 1943, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Her roots trace back to Norwegian immigrants who made their home in North Dakota, and her parents were proud first-generation Americans. Her father, Rolf Boe, came to California first, with plans to bring the family out. In 1951, her mother, Avis, accompanied Karen, along with her brothers Paul and Mark, on a bus journey that would anticipate the beginning of their new life in California.

Karen’s early years in California were characterized by change, which she embraced with grace. They moved several times, initially renting, before finally settling in their home on Seaborn St. in Lakewood. It was there that Karen attended McArthur Elementary and later went on to graduate from Lakewood High School in 1962.

Her professional journey began at GTE, followed by a role at Petrolane Oil. However, it was her time at Freeman Cosmetic Co., where she dedicated 17 years of her life, that truly stood out, showcasing her talent for making people feel seen. After achieving a management position with the company, Karen was ready to retire and welcomed her new role as a mother seamlessly. She found fulfillment in the simple joys of life, always creating beauty around her with gardening, filling her home with warmth, and love to create a space for her family to grow strong.

Karen had a profound passion for both reading and music. Her favorite band, the Bee Gees, always had the ability to light up a room. She constantly sought knowledge and cherished the power of a good book. She possessed an extraordinary talent in the kitchen as well, making recipes out of her cookbook. Her cooking was legendary, especially her self-learned talent for the Greek cuisine (which she mastered effortlessly) and American dishes, which became family favorites and a way for her to show love through her culinary artistry.

Above all, Karen’s greatest pride and joy came from her family. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Deno Boosalis, with whom she spent 50 years of marriage; a persistantly present mother to her two steadfast sons, Robert and Christopher; and a heartbroken mother to a daughter lost too soon, Cynthia. Karen had one grandson in whom she cherished dearly and had a special bond with. Together, they built a life filled with love, respect, and shared memories. She relished in every moment spent with her loved ones.

Karen is survived by her husband, Deno, sons Robert and Christopher (Samantha), grandson Gavin, and her brothers Paul and Mark. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.

As we say goodbye today, let us remember the fierce strength, kindness, and loyalty that Karen brought to everyone around her, every day. Her spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and we take comfort in knowing that her love and influence will remain with us forever.

Rest in peace, Karen. You will always be loved, and you will never be forgotten.
