June Martin, 99, born on May 31, 1916 in McCauley, Texas passed away August 15, 2015. She resided in Long Beach, California at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California. June Martin (nee Parker), age 99, passed away August 15th at home in Long Beach California. June was born in McCauley Texas in 1916 to William Herbert and Willie Olive Parker. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Edwards, daughter-in-law Debbie Byrne, sister Flora Lee Rector , brother James Parker and nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband Cyril Martin, brother Huie Parker and sisters Inell Huff and Laverne Hunter.

June graduated from McMurray College in Abilene Texas and became an elementary school teacher. She taught in a one room school for a few years prior to World War !!. She relocated to California when her first husband, Leon Edwards, was wounded in the war and sent to Santa Barbara to recover. After another move to Huntington Park her daughter Rita was born. In 1948 the family moved to Long Beach and purchased a home in the Los Altos area of Long Beach. June remained in this home until her death. She taught elementary school in the Long Beach Unified School District into the early 1970's. She traveled with her second husband Cyril to visit family and friends in Texas and Minnesota. They also took driving trips around the US.

June was a lifelong Methodist and joined the Los Altos United Methodist Church in 1957. She was active in the church serving in various capacities over the years. She was involved in the United Methodist Women and the Lydia Circle. She frequently took trips with the Mature Years group which she always enjoyed. She loved decorating for various events at the church. She always participated in the annual rummage sells and craft fairs. She had a strong Christian faith from her early childhood as her parents were very active in the local Methodist church in McCauley Texas.

June was loved and treasured by her family and friends. She was very sweet, kind, humble, gracious, loyal and responsible. She was meticulous in her care of her home and herself. She had a sweet smile and immense Texas charm. She treated everyone she met with respect and love. Her motto was Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. She never thought ill of anyone and accepted each person as a child of God. She loved to play games and was very competitive. She knew all the rules and usually won. She was a surrogate mother to all of her daughters friends who enjoyed spending the holidays with June. She was famous for her jello salads and german chocolate cake.

June will be interred at Forest Lawn Cypress. A Memorial service will he held at the Los Altos United Methodist Church on August 28th at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Los Altos United Methodist Church Foundation Fund or Salvation Army, Red Cross, Alzheimers Association or Special Olympics.
