June E. Carlson

January 15, 1925 — January 11, 2013

June Elaine Carlson passed away January 11, 2013 at her assisted living residence, Atria Del Rey in Rancho Cucamonga, California. Memorial Services were held January 19th at Forest Lawn in Covina,California followed by a reception at her daughter Carol Formal's home in Norco. She was 87. She was survived by her three daughters, Peggy Carlson, Beth Heck, and Carol Formal, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. Sadly one of her two grandson's, Seth Carl Sandstrom, preceded her in death due to a motorcycle accident.

June was born in Breckinridge, Minnesota to Hiram and Olive Osman but mainly grew up in Fargo, North Dakota. She had a severely disabled older brother, Charles, who had needs beyond what her mother Ollie could provide. For this reason June spent a lot of time with various relatives who could love and support her during her childhood. An interesting and unproven fact is that June said her family on the "Rolfe side" traced roots back to the famous Pocahontas.

She graduated from Fargo High School in North Dakota and attended business school. She held several jobs including the telephone company prior to breaking her pelvis in a automobile accident. She worked and volunteered during WWII and waited for the right man to come into her life, Paul Joseph Carlson, who she married October 10, 1951. Two of her daughters were born in Fargo, ND, during her husband's employment at North Dakota State University. Her third daughter was born in Grants Pass Oregon where the family resided for thirteen years. She rose to the occasion of being a good homemaker on the Cattle ranch. She was involved in several community organizations and supported her daughters in a lot of school and 4-H activities. She and her family would move to California, back to North Dakota, and finally settle again in Claremont, California until four months before her death. She celebrated her 59th wedding anniversary prior to her husband's passing in 2011.

She will be missed as a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She selflessly helped her family out whenever needed.
