Judith “Julie” Camille Wedeen, a beloved mother, sister, friend, and aunt, passed away on April 13, 2025, at the age of 67. A lifelong resident of Los Angeles, she most recently made her home in Sherman Oaks, where she built a warm, welcoming world for family—both given and chosen.
Julie spent most of her professional life in banking, but her true legacy is the life she created around her kitchen table, in her living room during holidays, and across decades of meaningful relationships. She was known for her honesty—direct, unflinching, and deeply rooted in love. Julie didn’t sugarcoat, didn’t perform, and didn’t pretend. You always knew exactly where you stood with her, and if you were one of the lucky ones, it meant being embraced with loyalty and care that never wavered.
She was an incredible cook whose home became the center of gravity for countless holidays and family gatherings. Thanksgiving and Christmas weren’t official until Julie hosted them—complete with white elephant games, black olive fingernails, and a deep sense of connection. She brought people together not with fanfare, but with consistency, generosity, and fierce devotion to those she loved.
Her greatest pride and deepest joy was her son, Tyler. Julie was a devoted mother and advocate, especially through her involvement with autism awareness and her service on the board of SERT. She dedicated her life to creating a world where Tyler could thrive.
Julie also found joy in travel, especially trips that combined her love of food, culture, and close friends. She spoke fluent Spanish and maintained strong ties with her family in Mexico. A lover of good meals, she adored Spanish wines and seafood paella and rarely passed up the chance to discover a new restaurant. Among her favorite pastimes was attending performances by the Troubadour Theater Company (the Troubies), who never failed to have her beaming and laughing the entire show.
Julie is survived by her son, Tyler; her husband, David Wedeen; her brother, Eric Bane; sister-in-law, Tabitha; and niece, Maemie. She is also deeply missed by her chosen family: Brian Willingham and his sons Jonathan, Jordan, and Justin; David and Khanh Willingham and their children Emma, Noah, and Owen; and Jenna Rose Robbins. She maintained deep, decades-long friendships with Paula Hom, Linda Zarlenga, and Richard Lujan—relationships that brought her joy, laughter, and unwavering support throughout every chapter of her life.
Julie built a life rich in connection, rooted in loyalty, and overflowing with love. Her absence leaves a space that can’t be filled, but her traditions, values, and presence live on in all who knew her.
