Joyce Evelyn Strickney Beasley, a beloved member of her community and a cherished presence in the lives of all who knew her, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025, at the age of 85.

Born on December 7, 1939, in New Iberia, Louisiana, Joyce was the fourth child of the late Ben Strickney and Isabella R. Strickney. From an early age, she set out to build a life filled with love, laughter, and purpose.

In 1976, she married Otto Beasley Sr., and together they had two sons, Otto Beasley Jr. and Travis Beasley, whom she lovingly raised as a single mother.

Joyce was deeply devoted to her faith and community, becoming an ordained minister through the Church of Gospel Ministry, Inc., in Chula Vista, California. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to a variety of meaningful pursuits. She was a talented jewelry maker and seamstress, with some of her creations featured in magazines and on various websites. In addition, Joyce always kept up with her appearances, which led her to attend cosmetology school and become a licensed cosmetologist. Known for her generosity and kindness, Joyce always opened her heart and home to those in need, she eventually took on a role as a caretaker and nanny.

She is survived by her sons, Otto Beasley (Sandi) and Travis Beasley (Terrie); her sisters, Beatrice S. Broussard (Joseph Irving) and Shirley S. Archangel (Whitney); and her grandchildren, Tayla Beasley, Foxy Beasley, Blake “Cowboy” Beasley, Dominic Beasley, Dedric Beasley, Shakinna Beasley, Africa Beasley, Travis Beasley Jr., Tanaizz Beasley and honorarily, Kayden Edwards and Cameron Lujan.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Strickney, and her brothers, Conrad Strickney and Willie Strickney. Joyce also leaves behind a host of beloved grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Joyce’s legacy of love, faith, and service lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She was a mother and grandmother to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
