Joyce Barba

Aug 16, 1946 — Jun 24, 2026

Joyce Barba, 79, of Montclair, California, passed away on June 24, 2026. She was born on August 16, 1946, in Monterey Park, California, to Lee Erwin and Beulah Mae (Anderson) Hosier.

Joyce married Juan L. Barba in October 1970. Together they made their home in Montclair, where they raised their four children: J.C., Juan, Maria, and Carlos.

Joyce's love for the Lord, her family, and the Dodgers was evident in the way she lived her life. She was a caring and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose creativity blessed those around her. Whether she was filling scrapbooks with treasured family memories and the funny sayings of her relatives or experimenting in the kitchen with her beloved recipes, Joyce found joy in creating. She had a generous heart and a strong work ethic. When she wasn't scrapbooking or working on a puzzle, she was cheering on the Boys in Blue. Her love for the Dodgers began in 1954, when she listened to games on the radio while babysitting. Her love for family was even stronger. Rather than celebrating Thanksgiving on the traditional day, Joyce hosted it on a Saturday in early November so the entire family could gather to give thanks.

Joyce dedicated 47 years of her career to serving the residents of Claremont Manor. She took great pride in her work and in the relationships she built over the years, touching the lives of countless residents, coworkers, and friends through her kindness, compassion, and steadfast commitment.

Joyce was baptized alongside her sister Linda at the El Monte Church of Christ in 1958. She was a faithful member of the Upland Church of Christ for many years. In retirement, she found great joy in participating in the Blankets of Love program alongside her church family.

She will be remembered for her lovingkindness, her quick and humorous wit, her laughing eyes, and her gentle spirit. Joyce loved her family and friends deeply and will be greatly missed.

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Juan L. Barba; her parents, Lee Erwin and Beulah Mae Hosier; and her siblings, Linda Colton, Cathy Villalobos, Jesse Hosier, and Art Hosier.

Joyce is survived by her children, J.C. Barba of San Bernardino; Juan and Tammy Barba of Chino Hills; Maria and Chris Taylor of Upland; and Carlos Barba and Marina of Montclair.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Spencer Barba, Wyatt Barba, Calista Barba, Calvin and Alissa Barba, Caleb Barba, Calea Barba, Ben Taylor, Annie Taylor, Marc Barba and Yesenia, Colin Barba, and the grandchildren she lovingly embraced, Areannah, Ethan, Savannah, and Breannah.

Her surviving family also includes her great-grandsons, Everett Barba and Marc A. Barba.

She is further survived by her sisters, Margaret Hobson of Gold Beach, Oregon; Elsie Hinkle of Buncombe, Illinois; and Donna Rich of Grants Pass, Oregon, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn – Covina Hills.
