Josephine Cadena, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 26, 2015, at Monterey Palms Healthcare Center in Palm Desert, CA. She was born on March 18, 1923, in Thermal, CA. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Juan and Francisca Barajas, her first husband, Jose Gonzalez and her second husband Natividad Cadena. She enjoyed the majority of her life as a wife, mother and grandmother. For a few years, she worked seasonally as a date sorter.
For 20 years plus, she volunteered at Our Lady of Soledad Catholic Church performing various duties, including food distribution and interpreter at the Sister Mary Alice Center, Special Minister of the Eucharist; and catechism instructor for First Communion preparation.Her volunteerism was a love that she gave up only when she was no longer able to physically perform these duties.
Josephine was also preceded in death by her daughter Esther Gonzales Rodriguez, her son Alex 'Pinini' Cadena and two grandchildren, Diana and Richard.
Grandma Josie, as her loved one's called her is survived by her daughter Anita Marlowe (Keith Grimes) and 17 grandchildren:
Marlowe - Shane Beltran, Shana (Terri), Shasta (Lisa), Shea (Sunnie);
Gonzales - Concepcion, David (Jill), Jimmy;
Rodriguez â Danny (Lupe), Tony (Claudia), Augustine, Angel, Denise, Bernice (Fernando);
Cadena â Alex (Violet), Adriana, Aaron, Andy.
She also had 48 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.
Most of her family lived in the Coachella Valley and Grandma Josie rarely had a day without company from a loved one. She had two nieces that she loved dearly and valued as daughters, Marlene and Sharon Flores; she also had a special friend, Ramon, who visited her daily. He was a delight to her and kept her spirits up.
Josephine is greatly missed by her family and friends.
