Joseph Sabato

Hampstead, NH: Joseph Sabato, 84, of Hampstead died on Tuesday morning, August 27, 2013 at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont. He was the beloved and devoted husband of Ann J. (Morris) Sabato, to whom he was married for 63 years.

Born in Cambridge, MA, son of the late Anthony and Catherine (Brescia) Sabato, and raised in Everett, MA, he graduated from Everett High School with the Class of 1947 and received his degree in mechanical engineering from Northeastern University.

A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict, he served as a sergeant and was a recipient of the OCC Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal.

Following his discharge, Mr. Sabato was a resident of Malden, MA for several years and later lived in Tewksbury, MA for 39 years until moving to Atkinson in 1996 and later to Hampstead in 2011. He was employed as a mechanical engineer for 23 years at Sanders Associates, which later became Lockheed Martin and is now known as BASE, retiring in 1990. He worked on the Patriot Missile Program and also developed radar systems as well as sheltering systems for radar used to deploy defensive missiles.

Mr. Sabato was a member of St. Luke the Evangelist Parish at Holy Angels Church, the Sons of Italy of Everett, MA, and the Dracut Seniors Club. He enjoyed bowling, trips to Foxwoods, carpentry, and woodworking. He was especially devoted to his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. Joseph Sabato, MD and his wife Joyce of St. Augustine, FL, his daughter Carol Heidenrich and her husband John of Chelmsford, MA, his son and Paul V. Sabato and his wife Lisa of Raymond, his son John J. Sabato and his companion Nancy of Salisbury, MA, his son, Wayne A. Sabato and his wife Cheryl of Pelham, twelve grandchildren, four great grandchildren, his sisters, Marie Nitti of Mahwah, NJ, Margaret Sampson of Cocoa Beach, FL, and Anna Connor of Everett, MA, and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call on Thursday, August 29, 2013, from 4-8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main Street, Route 121A, Plaistow, NH. A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Angels Church in Plaistow. Burial with military honors will follow at Holy Angels Cemetery, East Road, Plaistow, NH.
