September 13, 1924 - September 28, 2014 Joseph Gibson Cooper II, 90, born in Hackettstown NJ on September 13, 1924 to Marin LeBrun Cooper and Maybelle Speer Cooper, and long-time resident of Los Angeles, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2014 surrounded by his family in his home. Known by most as "Gib," he was a Senior Financial Analyst with Hughes Aircraft Company Corporate office for 25 years. After retirement, he enjoyed a career in real estate as a broker with Kent Realty and Coldwell Banker. Gib served as a Lieutenant in WW II, Pacific Theater (1943-1946) and the Korean War (1950-1953), after graduating from Lafayette College. After the war, he received his MBA from Harvard Business School in the first post-war class of 1948 and became one of "McNamara's Boys" at Ford Motor Company in Detroit following his graduation. Gib became a 32nd degree mason in 1954 and belonged to the Al Malaikah Shrine Club. He was also a former President of the Harvard Business School Club of Southern California. Gib had a passion for travel, swimming, the beach and getting to know people through many walks of life. Gib was a member of Bel Air Presbyterian Church for 34 years, where he served as a Deacon. Gib is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan Shaw Cooper of Pittsburg, his son Joseph Gibson Cooper III (Katrin), his daughters, Susan McCandless (Bill), Carol Farrer (Bill), Kathy Adams (Steven), eight grandchildren, and sister, Elizabeth Moore. He was a well-known and respected member of his community, was well loved by many, and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 2pm, Thursday, October 2nd at Forest Lawn Glendale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Los Angeles Shiners Hospital.
