Jose Varquez, affectionately known as Dodong, was born on April 16, 1951, in Cebu City, Philippines. He departed this world on August 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and an indomitable spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew him. He was steadfast in his faith. He relied on God's guidance and provision even when faced with adversity and suffering during his illness.
Dodong was the life of the party, possessing a vibrant personality that could light up any room. His infectious sense of humor and wit were unmatched, making him not just a friend but a cherished entertainer to many. Dodong showcased his talents as a great singer and dancer, effortlessly enthralling audiences with his musical abilities. He was adept at playing several instruments and would often fill gatherings with melodies that would evoke joy and nostalgia.
Beyond his musical prowess, Dodong was a passionate sportsman, particularly skilled at billiards, which he played with an enthusiasm that inspired those around him. His culinary talents were equally remarkable; he was known for his excellent cooking, delighting family and friends with meals that came straight from the heart.
Family was paramount in Dodong’s life. He was a loving father to Christine Angeli Varquez (Daughter), Jeffrey Francis Varquez (Son), and Agnes Varquez (Daughter in Law), who brought him immense pride and joy. As a dedicated brother, he shared his life with sisters Rosario Varquez, Lourdes Varquez, and Ninfa Desoloc, forging bonds that would endure through life's challenges. His affection extended to his niece and nephews, Maria Alyssa Varquez, Ian Jon and Axel Raymond Desoloc, and beloved family members Deborah and Dale Johnson.
Dodong was predeceased by his father, Juanito "Dodo" Varquez, and his mother, Sulpicia "Sol" Varquez, who are surely welcoming him with open arms in the embrace of eternal rest.
A visitation honoring the remarkable life of Jose Varquez will be held on August 25, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Forest Lawn located in Cypress, California.
Jose Varquez’s presence among us will be deeply missed; his ability to make everyone smile will forever echo in the hearts of his loved ones. A true entertainer, a devoted family man, and a wonderful friend, Dodong’s legacy will live on in the memories of those he cherished and who cherished him in return.
