Jose Manuel "Pinilla" Perez, 88, died September 20, 2019 at his home in Norco, CA. His final days were spent surrounded by friends and family that he touched in many ways throughout his memorable life.Â
Pinilla was born August 17, 1931, in Asturias, Spain, to Aquilino Alvarez and Carmen Garcia.Â
As a youth, Pinilla participated in and won several cycling titles across Asturias. In 1955, he moved to Madrid, where he met and fell in love with Carmen Cueto Fernandez. The couple married on July 8, 1961 and migrated to Canada, where their sons, Luis and Jorge, were born in 1962 and 1965 respectively. In 1967, the family moved to Southern California for work and to be closer to Carmen's aunts and uncles. Their daughter, Laura, was born in 1973. That same year, Pinilla began his company, Asturies Manufacturing, where he worked as a machinist for nearly 45 years. He took pride in his company and truly relished the friends he made during his time in business.
Pinilla loved good food and sidra. He enjoyed going to the Club Español de Fontana for dinner and dancing or to play cards with friends. He and Carmen also enjoyed many wonderful extended visits to their home province of Asturias.
Pinilla is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Carmen (Cueto Fernandez) Perez; son, Luis Perez and his wife, Leah; son, Jorge Perez Cueto and his wife, Ingrid; daughter, Laura Rauch and her husband, Carson; seven grandchildren, Laura, Luke, Claire and Emma Perez and Riley, Connor and Emerson Rauch; sister, Carmen Alvarez, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Â
