“In loving memory of a hardworking and beloved Dad and Grandpa.”

Jose Mauricio Medina was born on October 17, 1949, in Santa Ana, El Salvador, to Rosa Emilia Medina and Isabel de Jesus Arana Alvarado. Growing up, Mauricio discovered his love for auto repairs with the help of his uncle, that he lovingly referred to as el tío.

At 28, Jose Mauricio made a life changing decision and moved to Los Angeles, California, alongside his family, in search of new opportunities. It was here in the U.S. that he went on to grow his family, welcoming two more children.

Mauricio had an incredible work ethic and a passion for learning. He started by completing the ESL program at Evan's Community Adult School and later took advanced automotive courses at Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC). His hard work and determination paid off as he became an Advanced Master Auto Technician.

Mauricio worked at Jerry’s Garage in Hollywood, where he attributes a lot of his valuable experience from. Thanks to the encouragement of a professor at LATTC, he applied to Metro (LACMTA), where he proudly worked for 23 years. He loved his job, and his dedication inspired everyone around him.

Education was very important to Mauricio. It was a value he passed down. He always checked in with his grandchildren about their schooling and supported them in every way he could. He often talked about retiring in El Salvador and even joked about bringing one of his granddaughters with him to enjoy the peaceful life he imagined.

Mauricio stayed closely connected to his roots, returning to his hometown of Santa Ana every year. These trips were not only a chance to see friends and family but also to visit and maintain the businesses he had established there earlier in life. His connection to his homeland never faded, and he cherished the time he spent there.

At home, Mauricio enjoyed tending to his plants and caring for his beloved pomegranate, apple, and peach trees and his beautiful roses. He loved soccer, watching and cheering for his favorite teams, and never missed a single World Cup. Music brought him peace and joy, with favorites like Julio Iglesias, Jose Feliciano, The Carpenters, Air Supply, ABBA, The Bee Gees, Wilson Phillips, Phil Collins, Foreigner, and Creedence Clearwater Revival always playing in the background. On his daily commutes to work, he’d tune in to KFI AM 640 or KOST 103.5, finding comfort in the familiar voices and songs.

Mauricio’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his three children, two daughters and a son, and four grandchildren. Family outings, good food, and laughter filled his happiest moments. In his last year, his family made sure he felt deeply loved and appreciated every single day.

Mauricio passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by unconditional love. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work and unwavering devotion to his children and grandchildren.
