Jose Marie L. Soriano

April 9, 1946 — March 28, 2015

Jose (Joey) Marie Soriano peacefully joined our Lord at sunrise on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at his San Dimas home. He was surrounded by family and friends who cared for him during his battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.

Born on April 9, 1946 in Iloilo City, Philippines, to Ramon Ganzon Soriano and Conchita Lachica Soriano, Joey came from a background of landowners and entrepreneurs. His career in the automotive industry began with his own car business in the Philippines and continued in Vancouver, Canada, where he immigrated with his family in 1977. In 1987, the family continued on to California where Joey notably worked at Penske Mercedes (formerly Longo Motors and Johnson Motors) for more than 23 years, retiring in 2013.

His friends and loved ones described him as a joyful, generous, loyal, mischievous, loving, and gentle soul. His greatest pleasure came from caring for, helping, and serving others.

He enjoyed scuba diving, water skiing, vintage cars, restoring vintage motorcycles, attending community events, and playing with his dog Tessa. He was also a brilliant and spirited poker player. A true and proud Pilipino at heart, Joey loved his homeland's food, music, politics, sports, and traditions. Joey loved bringing people together to share food and laughter.

Joey is survived by Cora, his loving wife of 45 years; his children Cheryl, Jose, and Ramona; sisters Aida, Mildred, and Conchita; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his father Ramon; mother Conchita; sisters Rosie, Ofelia and Sonia; and brothers Roy and Mario.

Joey's life will be celebrated through a viewing on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Forest Lawn, Church of Our Heritage, 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, CA from 5:00PM to 9:00PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Sacred Heart Church, 344 West Workman Street, Covina, CA at 10:00AM. Internment will follow immediately.
