Jose Aquino Deguzman

June 6, 1940 — November 23, 2021

Jose A. De Guzman, otherwise known as Joe passed away on November 23, 2021 at the age of 81 peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones.

Born on June 6, 1940 in Gueguesangen, Pangasinan, Philippines, he was the son of Teofilo and Theodora De Guzman. Joe was the eldest son of 6 siblings.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and immigrated to the United States in 1963 so that he could help support his family back home in the Philippines. He was a proud Vietnam War Veteran and retired in 1983 as a Chief Petty Officer after serving for 20 years. He continued to work an additional 20 years for the U.S. Postal Services and retired in 2004.

Joe was happily married to his wife, Amabel and they were blessed to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary this year. One of his greatest joys were his three children, Joel, Melissa, Cristina and six grandchildren. He was tremendously proud of their accomplishments and always encouraged and supported them. Papa Joe made every effort to be present at all their milestones and extracurricular activities.

Joe found joy in making people laugh, traveling, gardening, dancing, singing, and serving God. He was a fun-loving man that will be fondly remembered for his endless jokes and always being the life of the party. Joe enjoyed traveling with family and friends and generously took his children and grandchildren on many vacations. He loved gardening, especially planting fruit trees anywhere he could find an open space. You could always find Joe dancing the Boogie at parties. He was a man of strong faith and a very active member of his Catholic community. He sang for the choirs of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Peter Chanel Church, and also served as a Eucharistic Minister for Holy Family Church. He was a firm believer that, "The family that prays together stays together."

He will be genuinely missed and will remain forever in our hearts. Family gatherings will never be the same without him. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Amabel; eldest son Joel and wife Ira, and their three children, Marco, Cerise, and Nico; second eldest twin daughter, Melissa and husband Edward and their two children, Andrew and Kaleb; and twin daughter Cristina and her son, Kainoa.
